I Hope My Children Never Have to Talk to Their Children about Police Brutality

One night during dinner, my 10-year-old son asked, “Why are the police so mean?” We were watching NBC Nightly News while eating dinner, and the video of Roderick Walker being beaten by a Georgia sheriff deputy aired. I hesitated while I thought of a suitable answer, then I said, “Not all police officers are bad.”
